Which sports muffler to choose?
At the beginning, it is worth mentioning what muffler we colloquially say ?sports? and how it differs from the serially installed in cars. The sports muffler is primarily straight through, which translates into a very fast flow of exhaust gases. It is usually made of stainless steel and has: a jacket surrounding it, two bottoms, a perforated pipe, steel wool and glass wool. Thanks to this design, we can get a much better sound, lower weight and improved engine performance. Silencers mounted in series (as end silencers) mostly have a chamber structure (the so-called reflex silencers). They attenuate sound waves by repeatedly reflecting them, which results in lowering energy.
The offer of sports silencers is very large. We can choose from round and elliptical, with different lengths, entry and exit diameters. This gives us a total of several hundred combinations, thanks to which we are able to choose the right silencer for us. At the beginning, we need to think about what we require from the exhaust (we increase engine power, want to change its sound, etc.), then check where and how many silencers we want to install. In recent times, mufflers with an active exhaust throttle have become more and more popular. By remotely changing the throttle position, we choose where the exhaust gases are to travel, e.g. I can go through the muffler or bypass it completely. In this way, we can adjust the sound of our exhaust system.
What gives a sports muffler
Sport through-port muffler improves exhaust gas flow and engine sound. We may need a custom exhaust system just to change the sound of the car or to increase its power. In serially supercharged cars, it is often the serial exhaust system that is the barrier to generating more power by the turbocharger. In this case, the basic element is the change of the Downpipe with a larger capacity, and the further part of the exhaust called cat-back with an increased diameter.
