What should I pay attention to when choosing a rally safety collar?
Protective collars have been absolutely mandated for use in the Polish Rally Championship since 2011.KJSs and open track days, among other rules, have not yet made such a requirement. First of all, because it would entail the obligation to have four-point seat belts, and thus bucket seatand safety cage. Then it could be that the sport is unattainable for many enthusiasts. Not only because of the cost, but also the reluctance to make such complex modifications to the car. However, having basic safety features in your car, isn't it worth it to equip yourself with a collar that will protect the most delicate area of your body, even if there is no requirement to do so?
What are the sizes of safety collars?
Kołnierz ochronny dla rajdowcówit is selected based on several guidelines. It has sizes and angles of inclination. The size will depend on the circumference of the neck, or what is popularly known as the collar. Then you can choose a size S, M or L. Between 30 and 40 cm is the small size. 35-44 cm is the medium size. 41-50 cm gives a size large.
The second element, the angle of inclination, is selected according to the motorsport discipline. In rallying, the sitting position is generally upright. Then a collar with an inclination of 10° or 20° is suggested. If the collar will be used in a carpool or other type of vehicle with a flat position behind the wheel, choose a collar of 30° for Radical racing or 40° in Formula 1, i.e. an almost reclining position.

Approval FIA describing the permitted use of the safety collar
Homologation 8853/98 also describes the types of collars and their use in each discipline. The most important caveat, however, is the distance and height of seat belt installation in relation to the type and size of the collar. This then defines the type of safety cage used in the car, and this is usually built to order for a specific vehicle. The regulations that the organizer implements should therefore be kept in mind from the very beginning of preparing the car and gathering accessories for racing.
The homologations apply not only to the collar itself, but also to the seat belts to be used. So you can see that good protection for the driver and his eventual passenger depends on a set of factors, and the collar and safety helmet set is only one of the elements.
